Eight shipping invoices, 4 addressed to John M. Ford, and 4 addressed to William Ford, both in Philadelphia. The invoices were for goods ordered from William Harrold & Son, merchants of Birmingham, Eng. All goods were consigned to T. & J.D. Thorneley of Liverpool for shipping to Philadelphia. Almost all the goods purchased were hardware for harnesses, bridles, and saddles, and included hames, snaffles, buckles and hooks of different kinds, harness links, spurs, stirrups (including ladies' stirrups), saddle nails, spring bars, breeching rings, knobs, bits, swivels, and terretts. Also ordered were such leather goods as heads, reins, and saddles; girth, diaper, and straining web; and some worsted. The invoices include a drawing of the marks on the casks used for shipping, indicating the recipient. Also noted were the names of the ships: "Grace Brown," "Montezuma," "Monongahela," and "Pocahontas."
